Each life phase brings different opportunities for growth. We embrace being an intergenerational community, and we take teaching and learning from our children seriously. Our Christian Formation classes for children use the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd curriculum. We see the classroom as the meeting ground of two mysteries: the mystery of God and the mystery of the child. We are also dedicated to the safety and well-being of our children (see Safeguarding God’s Children below). For more information, contact Marvin McLennon, Director of Children and Youth Ministries.

Youth Choir

For 2nd through 6th graders during the school year. We follow the curriculum for the Royal School for Church Musicians, which includes teaching singers how to develop good vocal technique, music theory, and repertoire. The Children’s Choir participates in worship services once a month and is an integral part of the Christmas Eve pageant. You don’t have to know how to read music, you just have to love to sing. For more information, contact Mary Kay Burton.

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is a hands-on exploration of the parables and sayings of Jesus. For example, the youngest children learn about the Last Supper and Baptism, while older children learn how to look up passages in the Bible and discuss them. The atrium for the oldest students explores the meaning of discipleship, crucifixion, and resurrection.

Good Shepherd Atrium – ages 3 to kindergarten
The True Vine Atrium – grades 1 to 3
The Studio – grades 4 to 5

Classes take place Sunday’s from 9:15 a.m. to 10:10 a.m. in the parish hall.

Children’s Chapel

At 10:30 am each Sunday children begin worship with their parents in church. After the prayer of the day the children gather at the back of the church and process to the children’s chapel in the Parlor. There they sing, pray, hear a lesson for the day in simple language, and share their ideas. They can place an offering of quarters in the peace pipe, which, when filled, buys animals for families in need through Heifer International. Childen rejoin their parents for Communion during the passing of the Peace.

Nursery for Infants and Children

The nursery, known as The Flowers Playroom, is located off the gallery on the right as you enter the building from the parking lot. Childcare is available on Sunday mornings from 7:45 a.m. until noon, from 5:45 p.m. on Sunday nights until the conclusion of Compline, and during special events and services. Our care givers are conscientious and create a safe, inviting enviroment for children six weeks to seven years of age, where they can interact and spend time in a loving community. Parents sign their children in and out of the nursery, and generally leave a cell phone number at which they can be reached. There is also a rocking chair available in the acolyte room down the hall if a quiet place is needed for parents to be with their infants.

Children’s Bell Choir

Floyd Martin, Zoe Rossi, and Mike Nelson direct our children’s bell choir. The choir rehearses after the 10:30am service each week during the school year, and the choir plays at the 10:30am service several times during the year. Contact Floyd Martin for more information.

Safeguarding God's Children

All of our paid staff undergo background checks, and all of our staff and volunteers who work with children take the Safeguarding God’s Children training. In addition, we have policies on the appropriate use of social media and others ways that we keep our children safe at Christ Church. For more information about our policies, contact Marvin McLennon.
